Position Description

Caring for patients and families through the organ donation process, the Organ Recovery Coordinator (ORC) provides a bridge between the loss of life and the gift of life. The ORC works cooperatively with hospital staff, patient families, and LifeCenter Northwest colleagues to identify, evaluate, manage and coordinate donor activity.

The Job

  • Takes 24 hour call to be available for activity associated with organ donation.
  • Receives and screens potential organ donor referrals.
  • Provides support to donor families and potential donor families.
  • Obtains consent and a behavioral medical social history of potential donors.
  • Performs physical assessments and conducts donor management.
  • Assists in perfusion, preservation, packaging, and distribution of donated organs.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for the Hospital Development Department which includes presentations to various groups.

The Qualifications

  • Five years experience in emergency or critical care, or RN; ACLS preferred.
  • Bachelors degree with previous ORC experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • ORCs must obtain their CPTC within 23 months of hire date.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members.
  • Demonstrates care, courtesy, and concern in all interactions.
  • Provides culturally sensitive care including consideration for diverse cultures, ethnicity, language,community, and beliefs.
  • Ability to act in a manner that upholds LifeCenter Northwest values.
  • Ability to multitask is crucial.
  • Must demonstrate operating knowledge of computers with a demonstrable, basic level skill (atminimum) with Outlook, Word, Excel and other comparable software programs.

The Key Requirements

  • This position requires on-call responsibilities, must be able to work up to 7 consecutive days on-call.
  • Travel is essential to this position; consequently, the employee must be prepared to travel by automobile and aircraft within and outside the LifeCenter Northwest service area.
  • May have to work extended shifts in a medical setting.
  • Serve as an educational resource for organ and tissue donation to the community.
